It is the second piece of a three part set (triptych) and is the larges project we have yet undertaken. The construction is composed of 12 sheets of 220 cold-pressed illustration board whose total dimensions are a rather astounding 15' X 6'8". The mixed media and new airbrush tactics have allowed us to create with a high degree of intricacy.
A rough equivalent of Boch's Garden of Delights (center panel), An Antipode depicts the terra supported by elephants standing atop a giant turtle. There are numerous perspective shifts and a linear progression independent of The Cortex leading from day and ending in night. Analogous "Mobius Strip" Symmetry of Contrast and Color where used again only this time with mass in three-dimensional space. Bosh, having lived at the turn of the 15th century did not have the knowledgebase, the television commercials, the video games, or the mathematics to have envisioned a landscape as such, based on a toroidal configuration; we are pleased to be involved with its emergence. This painting is a sub-summation of worldview and An Antipode of reality - hence a depiction of a symbolic/surreal landscape.
